50th ANNIVERSARY 2011
AND A HISTORY OF THE SMOKY MOUNTAIN MODEL A CLUB

.
In early 1961 the first contact letter was sent to the Model A Restorers Club (MARC) by eight men requesting to form a new club within the East Tennessee area.

A letter was received on January 23, 1961 from the East Tennessee region of MARC releasing the counties of Knox, Anderson, Sevier, and Blount to become eligible as charter members of a new MARC Chapter.

A meeting of area Model A enthusiasts was held on February 21, 1961 and officers were elected. The club voted for "Smoky Mountain Model A Club" as the official name for the new club and application for a charter was made to MARC.

A letter approving the MARC charter was received on March 4, 1961 and on March 9, 1961 the Smoky Mountain Model A Club became "official with the installation of thirteen "charter" members.

The club was off and running; ten days later, on March 19, 1961 the first official club trip was made by a group of Smoky Mountain Model A'ers. The destination was Morristown, Tennessee where the new club met with the East Tennessee Region.

The club continued to thrive, and on April 16, 1961 the counties of Meigs, McMinn, Monroe, Rhea, Roan and Loudon were added to the Smoky Mountain Model A Club.

In February 1964 the Smoky Mountain Model A Club received it's membership in the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA). The club continues to be associated with both of these great National Model A Clubs.

The club has consistently maintained a membership of approximately 110 families in the last 20+ years. We have sponsored and donated to a number of charitable causes.

The "Mountains Music and Model A's Meets" have been a great success in the past years, having been held every two years in the Pigeon Forge, Tennessee area.

The club's winter months meetings consist of Christmas parties, potluck dinners or robust buffets. During the summer at least one monthly tour is made and some overnight tours are taken.

All of our events are family oriented and young drivers are encouraged.
